Great replacement
The zone valve motor stop working after 5 years. Very easy to install. It took me less than 10 minutes to replace the old one and we got our heat back.

I bought this item hoping it would work for control M874D1004
This motor was not an exact match for my M874D1004 unit. The differing speed is not a issue. However, the pinion gear was approximately .080" longer than the original motor. The gear at this length did not permit a full return to the home position due to internal interference. I was able to shorten the length by grinding the end down until it matched the original. This modification worked and was necessary to obtain proper functionality.

Why did I wait so long?
For the last 2 years I've had a problem with a zone control valve sticking open. I'd come home after work or wake up in the morning to a house that's 80+ degrees. I used to just give the old valve a little tap to free it until that no longer worked. I thought I was going to have to replace the whole unit which would involve more work than I wanted to do, hence the 2 years of just dealing with it.... I began my internet research as we all probably do with the model number of the valve assembly and ended up on some very useful forums that discussed these motors going bad. The people described their problems and they were exactly what I was experiencing. I was happy to find out that the fix was just an easy motor swap. (Also I was annoyed that I waited 2 years to fix it) The motor was new and arrived quickly. The repair involved a screwdriver and a wire cutter/stripper to splice 2 wires with the provided wire nuts and took about 5 minutes..... I really should have done this a long time ago....smh...

You can do this......
With having a four-zone boiler setup I'm seeing my HVAC pro replace these things faster and more often than a squirrel burying chestnuts. After watching him do this a couple of times (OK, a FEW times), I figured it was stupid of me to not do this myself and save me time and some money. Now for all you hvac guys and girls out there, put your spears down for a moment. I don't mind tossing some dough to my pro, but he knows I can do this kind of job and he can get on to bigger things. Besides, he doesn't carry just the motor in his truck....he brings in a whole new zone valve, uses the motor and tosses the rest. Says "it's about the same cost" for him as he buys in quantity. I'm thinking not. Anyway, this is a simple 10 minute procedure (20 minutes if you haven't had your morning coffee)...couple of screws, couple of wire nuts and you're back in business of watching your favorite sports team whilst sipping a cold barley-pop. Watch a half dozen YouTube videos if you are not familiar with the process of the motor installation. I say watch six videos cause at least two or three of them are gonna be some fumblenuts that don't have a clue how to make a coherent 5-8 minute video of what they are doing. Flamethrowers down please... I'm a good DIYer, but I'm not gonna make a terrible video to show off my good work. I'm sure anybody that can handle a screwdriver can successfully tackle this project. You must be older than 21 to do the barley-pop portion. Thank you and have a great day.

Skeptical of the Quality of these motors!
NOTE/UPDATE 12-12-2016 Here's MORE BAD NEWS: Since my last comment, three (3) more of the four (4) motors that I bought in this order and held in my parts inventory have failed in as little as nine (9) months since installation BUT six (6) months of actual use since these are used in my home heating system; and not used in summer months. THE SHAFTS THAT HOLD THE GEARS SHEARED OFF ON ALL OF THESE. These are the ones with the small diameter shafts that I discussed earlier in this review. I've only ever had a large shaft break and it did that within hours of installation. That one appeared to be defective heat-treating = too hard. I've used a lot of these motors in the past 20 years since they have a high mortality rate in the field. I'm attaching two (2) more photos of the shaft diameter difference between the large shaft and these that failed with the small diameter shafts. It also shows the broken units. The usual failure mode is jammed gears inside the motor. These with the small shafts don't even get that far. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get through to anyone at Honeywell, the manufacturer. I've also never got a response from the seller. NOTE / UPDATE 03-12-2016: Here's a follow-up: I just installed one of these motors on March 3, 2016 and the output shaft sheared off just 8 days later. The shaft looks like it was improperly heat-treated causing it to break. I had this happen on another one of these motors a few years back. See the photo attached. The usual failure mode is that the gears in the motor mechanism lock up. I also installed 3 of the other motors from my order of 4; 1 a year ago and 2 as recently as last month. I'll update this review as appropriate. The bodies of all of my valves operate with little effort, so I don't think that the motors are being over-stressed. I have a high failure rate application for these ,motors. They are used on White-Rodgers 13A02 zone valves. The inner gear-trains fail by locking-up and the motor needs to be changed. The four (4) Honeywell "Synchron" motors that I received look suspicious in quality. The motor's out-put shafts that the brass output gear is pressed onto is too short. It only protrudes into the gear less than half the gear's length. This is unlike the dozen or so failed motors that I have collected over the past 20 years. All of them have shafts that extend through the length of the gears. Having the correct length shaft is critical, as the gears is loaded heavily at its end, where these gears are not now supported by the shaft. The gear also depends on the press-fit friction between it and the shaft in order to transfer the rotation. Without full engagement through the gears length, the gears ability to drive is diminished significantly. Since I am putting these new motors into my spare parts inventory, I will not know if they are satisfactory until I put them into service. I am attempting to contact the manufacturer, Honeywell, to see if this is an issue to them, but I have not yet been able to complete that. For whatever it's worth, these motors are marked "Made in the USA, Packaged in Canada". I have other motors (that have the correct length shafts) marked as being packaged in the USA, Canada and Hungary(?). I will remain skeptical that these motors will deliver the service that I need given this newly observed factor. I am considering returning them for credit.

Perfect fit
This worked perfectly. I have a boiler radiant heat system. Every now and then the zones go out. It's a huge frustration and expensive part of owning a system like this. Having the knowledge that I now can fix these zone valves with these 26.00 motors is a huge relief. Thanks to amazon and honeywell for selling these motors. As many have said plumbers or HVAC guys will charge us a ton of money. This is an easy fix too. Unscrew the tiny screw, remove wires then put new one on screw it back in then reattach the 2 wires. You will be done in 5 minutes. I'll buy more of these as back ups. I m very happy. If your zone keeps allowing heat to flow through its likely the motor is shot. Buy one of these replace it quick and back and running you will be.

Works perfect
Fixed my heat issue that was broken for years. Finally got tired of excuses claiming it worked fine. Now it actually does!

It works
This was the exact replacement for a Honeywell zone valve for my radiant floor heating. The original motor was making grinding noises and did not actuate the switch in the valve assembly properly causing a heating relay to chatter when activated. After disassembling the old motor, I discovered that one of the non metallic gears had stripped. I may need to be buying more of these since I have a dozen of the Honeywell valve assemblies in the Radiant heating system. Decent price and handy to be able to get it from Amazon.

Works perfect
I used this as an exact replacement for an old Honeywell motor. The old one seemed to like to jam up, causing my heat to stay on permanently. I switched this out in literally ten minutes, and now my valve is working perfect again. It is common for these motors to fail. If you are having issues with your heat staying either on or off to a zone, this should be the first thing you should check. Shipping was also very fast.
