Great shopping cart except it doesn't turn

This is a really great play toy shopping cart. It's very sturdy and I like that it is made of wood rather than plastic. The bright color is really fun as well. I will say that the thing that I do not like about it is that the wheels don't really "turn" Otherwise it is a really great toy!

This cart is excellent. Solid and sturdy, and the perfect size for short 14 month old. She'll be using it for a few years.

Child likes it, came with chip

Pretty expensive shopping cart but I wanted something that wasn’t plastic and that was non toxic. Came with a chip in the wood which was a bummer. Didn’t notice till I was putting it together for Christmas and by then it was too late to return. I’ve already forgotten where the chip was however so I guess it’s not a huge deal. My child likes it and uses it not only for “shopping” but also other pretend play scenarios. I do wish the wheels would turn corners though. My child gets frustrated some days that she can’t turn the cart with ease.

Could have been awesome

This is a hard review to write. The shopping cart is really great, but it required a DIY, engineering, and extra parts to make it great. As it came, it was junk. I probably should have returned it but it's in Blippi colors, so it's this one or none at all. It began all wrong when the box contained two identical wheel bases, not mirror images. That required us to flip one around so the counter sunk holes were on the inside and the outside looked less finished, plus the logo on one leg was now on the inside and looked stupid. Epic packing fail at the factory. Next, once it was functionally assembled, it became glaringly obvious that the wheels were a horrible design. They only travel in a straight line, and they have grippy rubber so the thing is nearly impossible to turn. Epic product design fail. I found the "Skelang 4 Pcs 1 Inch Side Mounting Casters" on Amazon and replaced the wheels with those. Those things are fast and let it do donut burnouts! But I did have to put new holes in the bases and find the correct placement to avoid wobbling, which does require some thought. NOTE: these casters have zero drag so only appropriate for a competent walker, not beginner. So yes, it came requiring 5 times the work listed on the instructions, so it only gets 2 stars for having potential and the right colors. But with some hot-rodding it became pretty sweet! FYI, when assembling do not tighten down the screws until the whole thing it put together. Having them a little loose makes assembly much easier.

Great Fun and Easy to Assemble

I bought this as an early birthday present for my nephew's daughter who is almost 3 years old. She loves it! It is very stable and not too heavy. So far we have not experienced the problem of the wheels coming off that a few other reviewers reported. The quality is quite good! I was amazed at how compact it was in its disassembled state. It was very easy to assemble with the included allen wrench. The wheels come already attached to the base. All you need to do is assemble the basket pieces to the handlebar pieces and then attach them to the base. My nephew and is family live in Colombia, so they will need to disassemble it and pack it in their luggage when they return home. Fortunately it breaks down into pieces that should fit easily into a large suitcase or duffle along with their clothing.

Great for Walker or Pretend Play

This shopping cart is fantastic. My toddler has some mobility difficulties and is trying to learn to walk. I think I have tried, examined, or researched every walking/push toy on the market. Most of the popular walker toys just don't have the stability she needed and would frequently tip over. I purchased this shopping cart as a walking toy. It is extremely well made-- very solid and does not tip. It has the stability I was looking for. The wheels do turn a little fast for your average child learning to walk, but I modified them so they rolled a little slower. The shopping basket is also a great feature because it is very motivating to put things in and out of the cart or push a doll/stuffed animal. The best part is that I know she will be able to use it for many years to come for pretend play. I highly recommend!

Love it! No wheel issues.

No wheel issues here---and I have a toddler who practically does wheelies all over the hardwood floors with this cart. Is it just me, or is it pretty much identical to the one that Pottery Barn Kids sells (except different colors)? Either way--we love this thing. Love the wood and the cloth basket. I was debating about the metal Melissa and Doug cart, but I much prefer having a solid basket vs one that has holes in it (aka I could already feel a toddler tantrum coming on with various toys getting stuck in the holes). Super sturdy, we love it!

Stable baby walker

I bought this for my son learning to walk. It's stable and good quality. He can also use it later as a shopping cart toy. I am always impressed by Hape products.

difficult to steer

Easy to put together. Fun for both my children. It is difficult to steer though as the wheels are fixed straight.

Can't contact seller.

Can someone please help me contact Hape as one wheel fell off as soon as my child used it. I have many hape products and know they are good quality. This must of been a defect that is all.

Ready for a trolley dash

This is a really fun toy, although the responsible adult will need to set aside a half an hour or so to construct it in a leisurely fashion. No extra tools are required, just the ability and patience to follow the picture instructions. Everything you require is sent in the box. The basket is fairly small the size of small handbag, could carry a bunch of bananas, maybe a few books, two teddies...There is room on the base for other stuff. The trolley only moves in a straight line so has to be bumped about to change direction. The wheels are wooden, very strong with rubber tyres. Reassuringly, overall this trolley is extraordinarily stable. The shopping trolley is robust, sturdy, traditional, colourful, most appealing. Owing to its narrow profile, it is reasonably compact to stow away and also could hold other toys, so it is in itself a storage unit. Our two and a half year old grandson takes it very seriously, pushing it about importantly. Our one year old great nephew can use it as a walker, as he is just taking his first steps.
