SMOKING DEAL!

I bought this same exact kit from the Mac tools truck years ago for around $100. Lent to someone and it disappeared. Found this for a WAY BETTER PRICE, and it's identical. Just a different color box that doesn't say Mac tools!!!!! Go on buy it!!!

Overall quality appears to be good, except the condition of 2 sizes; 5/16" and 1" were damaged

Overall the quality and fit of the handle to the punches are good, I would have given 5 stars if the 2 sizes listed in the headline hadn't arrived damaged, still inside the case. That tells me they left the factory in this condition, maybe dropped or dinged prior to assembly and thrown in the case anyway, or not re-inspected. With the quality of the grind on the rest of the cutting edges it's a real shame these arrived in this condition since I would have to try and manually fix these, especially the 5/16" punch.

Needs sharpening out of the box

Used this to make small washers from .02 inch rubber sheet. To get a clean cut the punches needed sharpening. I chucked each punch in a drill press and mounted a Dremel tool with a fine grinding wheel in a vise to do the sharpening. By adjusting the point where the grinding wheel touched the edge of the spinning punch I was able to get a nice even sharp edge. To make accurate concentric cuts for the washers, I chucked a 5/16 stud in the (powered-off) drill press and mounted the punches on that, rather than the included driving mandrel. Then used the drill press to force the punch into the rubber sheet that was taped to a sheet of delrin. Worked well enough for my purpose.

Well, at least the holes are round.

I bought this kit/set to punch 'washers' out of leather. The idea of having the retractable center post is supposed to make that easy - just punch out large disks, then use the same center spot with a smaller cutter. Unfortunately, these aren't centered. I've got washers with off center holes in them. But, I guess for just punching hoes....well, at least they're round.

Exactly as advertised

For the money, it is an excellent tool. I don't have to use it often, but when you are restoring old cars and building street rods, it is invaluable for making gaskets.

It's a hit or miss.

Quality control must be lacking. Some of the punches are grinded nicely, smooth amd sharp, some others are dull and uneven and one was even chipped, unusable. This set has to go back.

These are a quality kit. Tool steel, sharp, Great box

You can buy an import kit for half the cost of this one, maybe less. But the steel is sub par, the bag they come in will fall apart, they will be dull and perhaps not round,. These are made in the USA to a high standard. The hobbiest will not wear these out. Good deal at this price. Used them recently for a couple of hundred holes through thick rubber. Glad I spent the extra money to buy quality.
