Rain Barrel Pump System

Good wash down & live well Pump.
I used this as a direct replacement for my Wellcraft 18' boat. I usually go to West Marine and get a similar pump for nearly double the price. The difference? This one doesn't come with a strainer or water spray nozzle. Fortunately, the strainer (fliter) I had fit directly into the pump. The correct strainer for this is 1740-012. The problem so far? It only lasts me an average of 3 years for salt water use. Maybe that's all I should expect? This pump is manufactured by ITT and is also the manufacturer of Goulds Pumps. One other tip/suggestion: The original pump was located in a difficult to access area. Almost impossible to access while boating. I moved the pump to a more accessible area. In order to do this, I had to add hose and wire but it was well worth it. I can now clear the strainer pretty easily while boating. Update: 5/30/16. I've had pump for a couple of years and it locked up. I dismantled it and found bearings on the end of the motor shaft frozen. I used WD-40 to break them loose and turn them by hand. There is a hole in the motor casing, I will now starting squirting WD-40 in it from time to time.

good replacement
On a recent camping trip, the pressure sensor failed on our RV water pump--causing the pump to run continuously whenever the pump switch was turned on . I noted the model and serial number of our old Flojet pump and began a internet search to check out our options. I could buy a replacement sensor for roughly $45 and install it on our current pump or replace the whole pump (sensor included) for Amazon's price of $95. I figured the pump was as old as the sensor so I elected to replace the unit as a whole. The only issue I came up against was the input/output fittings supplied with the new pump--they were 'straight' (as seen in the picture on Amazon) and I need two that had a 90º bend in them to make the install a simple remove/replace affair. Fortunately, I was able to remove the 90º fittings from the old pump and, with the simple installation of new o-rings (supplied with the new pump/fittings) on the old elbows I was able to complete the pump replacement in a little over an hour--most of that hour was spent wiggling into and out of the small space under our RV's bed where the pump is located. On a subsequent camping trip we found we could run the shower and run the sink faucet with little or no noticeable loss of water pressure.

This is exactly what I needed for my tent trailer at an affordable cost. It was the updated version of what I had so it was a simple plug and play.

I live aboard a boat with pressure water systems and a washing machine, continual use. Ive had about seven pumps in 15 or 20 years and this is the most powerful and quiet. I was looking into the high tech pumps with electronic soft start regulation and no, they have issues. My last pump from Englund marine ran over one hundred fifty and with the first splash of water on the motor, it failed from the moisture. These pumps (I use two. one for drink and the other just wash water only) were $64 with very reasonable shipping and vastly more quiet. Self priming and I love them. At HALF the cost of my previous purchase. Just be sure to filter the water before the pump so the valves do not fail..None of these pumps can handle any particles or fibers in the water.

Pump did not include a pressure cut off switch.
This pump did not come with the pressure cut off switch (the small square box with two red wires) as shown in the Amazon pictures or on the outside of the product box. It only had a small plastic cover over that spot. Fortunately I was replacing an exact same pump, so I was able to remove and use the pressure switch from my old frozen up pump. I am not sure what would have happened if I had installed it without a pressure cut off switch as it came; probably blow out my RV water line.

Quality pump
Direct replacement for a leaking unit. They are high end pumps but expensive. Guys make sure you antifeeze it in winter !
