Love it
Got it because it was cheap. Love it! Works well and I used the hook end way more than I anticipated! Great buy!

It's a mallet that does mallet things
It's a perfectly acceptable mallet that works perfectly to do mallet things.

Don't expect to do anything more than tap in tent pegs.
This item is described as a "Tent Peg Mallet" and that is about all that it is good for. It is poorly balanced, the handle is too short for a good leverage hit, the handle wood is lightweight, and the handle is too small of a diameter for a manly grip. Also, be aware that this will arrive with a stick-on label wrapped around the handle. The label is about 2.5" long, slippery, wrinkled, and affixed with permanent adhesive. The handle was uncomfortable to hold with the label affixed. Removing it took multiple soakings with wallpaper remover, scraping in between each soaking.

Heavy duty mallet, works really well. The peg hook could be better.
This mallet held up pretty well to a LOT of hammering pegs into hard ground over a multi-day camping trip. It was really a life-saver as it would have been really difficult to push pegs into the dry baked ground where we camped. The mallet also held up well when we used it to splinter firewood using it to hammer down a hatchet to split really tough logs of pine firewood. The rubber showed some signs of wear and tear but overall it held up. The peg hook on the other hand is only good for soft ground, it's not heavy duty enough to pull up pegs from hard ground and pulled out of the wooden handle and also got misshapen after the first few attempts. However, this is a mallet that I would still purchase again, and like other reviewers suggested, it's a good idea to hammer in a better hook into the other end.

Sturdy & budget friendly
I needed a rubber mallet to tap in the shapes in a pumpkin carving kit. I do daycare & this worked wonderfully. It was sturdy, durable & a very good price. It wasn't awkward or to heavy for the children (toddlers) to use.

Useful but doesn't seem durable
Very useful for camping, but I have my doubts as to the durability of the hook. It was already bent when I received the mallet. I was able to easily bend it straight, but I won't be surprised if it bends again or comes out of the mallet completely. That said, I've already used it camping and it worked fine. Worst case, even if the hook comes out completely, I'll still have a useful rubber mallet. I'm considering picking up a different stake puller though, such as thisGray Outdoor Camping Bivouac Tent Awning Tarps Swags Peg Puller Extractor , but not until the one on the mallet gives out. I like having both in one tool, as it's one less thing to remember to bring when packing for a camping trip.

You'll be surprised how much you like this.
I've been using these for at least the last ten years, and they're super handy. Getting your tent stakes into the ground is one thing - and can be accomplished in a number of ways (a hammer, a piece of firewood, your shoe), but I find these mallets work better. And if you've camped with any frequency you've likely realized that pulling up your tent stakes can sometimes be no easy task. Because of the loop, this mallet makes quick work of it, and you'll be happy you have it. I made the mistake of leaving one of these hanging outside over winter, and the rubber head started chipping off somewhat easily while driving stakes the following spring. I'd advise you store it where it's free from the elements (at least rain/snow).

Just Spend a Few $ More For Something Better
The first one I received was defective, so Amazon sent me a second one. I received it today, and the first thing I notice is on each side of the mallet I see what feels and looks like metal exposed under the rubber. This is my first rubber mallet so I don't know if it's just suppose to be a thin layer of rubber wrapped around some cheap metal, but my common sense tells me no this isn't right. If what I am seeing is accurate then this thin layer or rubber will rip after a single use or two. As I said I have never bought on one, but I have used them in the past when working for other people. Those I have used felt like rubber, this feels like very hard plastic wrapped around metal. I say just spend 2-3 times the price and buy a different brand.

Its a rubber mallet!
For under 10 bills, held together for the first few uses no problem. I don't doubt it'll fall apart at some point, but it's under 10 bucks :)
