Maybe not for guinea pigs used to the free moving ball tip.
It's okay, IF you have a dog or cat but maybe not for guinea pigs. I'm not sure if it's just my guinea pigs or if it's that they were raised with a different tip but they weren't taking to it at all :( The ball is actually being pushed by a spring to stay in place until the pet tries to drink from it not just free like the other ones that I have had them use. So it takes them awhile of licking to get enough water out of it since they'd have to push a lot more and I just felt bad for them so I ended up putting the water bottle that had a ball that moved around freely since that one they got more water out of and this ones just on the side if they either feel like it or the other bottle runs out of water before i could refill. The top fill seemed so good since my piggies are thirsty little ones and i'd refill the water twice a day but it wasn't meant for my piggies and they want to watch me suffer and change their bottle all the time.

Can't hold it's own weight.
I bought this for use with my Parakeets and their cage. This thing is huge, much larger than I expected and the fault on underestimating the size totally falls on me. Other users that say it leaks are correct, but this only seems to be apparently immediately after use and eventually stops within a few minutes. The real flaw however, at least in my case, is that this simply does not seem to be able to support its own weight when full attached to my particular cage, your results may vary. I ended up adding some extra support underneath it to try and relieve some of the stress from the weight, and fill it less. Thankfully small birds aren't heavy drinkers so this is not a huge issue. Its not a bad product as long as you are aware of the cons upfront and are willing to work around them, but I feel it could be better.

These leak BADLY!!!!
I read the reviews before purchasing two of these for my two rats, and I noticed that there were many people who had a problem with the bottles leaking. I did notice that there were also many people who had success, so in my view I had a 50/50 shot at getting good bottles that wouldn't leak. If these were plain run-of-the-mill bottles like all the rest, no way would I have ordered these, but the top-fill feature is what really sold me! With my previous bottles, I hated having to refill them because it was SUCH a pain taking them out of the cages each time. With these, I loved the idea of not having to take the bottles out of the cages every time, only having to fill them once every couple days since they hold so much more water than other bottles, AND not even having to remove the bottles from the side of the cage in order to fill them. These 3 features are what convinced me to try these. It is a great idea but in this case, poor execution. These bottles leak constantly. From the very first day, they both leaked continuously until about 1/4 full, then stopped. So no matter how full I would fill them, they would only be 1/4 full by the next day and the bedding under the bottles would be soaking wet. So I figured well, at least I still have the convenience of only having to lift a small lid to fill them, even if I have to do it every day. They worked this way for a few months, then one of them stopped holding any water at all! I would fill it 1/4 full as usual, then it would be completely empty by the next day. Ugh!! Needless to say, I will never be ordering these bottles again. If you purchase one, I hope you have better luck with it than I did!

The best option for my rats
This is a really great water bottle for my rats. I won't ever go back to a inside-the-cage-bottle. They're a pain to fill and they break down much more quickly than this handy outside-the-cage bottle. I've used it on both travel crates and the large crate my rats usually live in and it works easily with both and is easy to install in the cage. It's not super expensive, which is great, but because of that it does break down over time. I've had both of mine for half a year now and the plastic rings that keep them attached to the cage are beginning to get a bit weak, but they still work, especially if you don't fill the bottle all the way up to the very top.

... water bottle what with all the reviews and I'm sad to say I was burned for it
I took a chance on this water bottle what with all the reviews and I'm sad to say I was burned for it. The bottle itself seems too good to be true. Clips on, no drips, top fill. A dream of a water bottle. But sadly, it was actually too hard for my rats to use. The ball at the end of the supper was too tight and they were unable to get ANYTHING out of it. So, no, it didn't leak, but my rats couldn't drink either. Now, as for the top fill, this was also incredibly disappointing. The cap itself is not secure, nor is the piece of rubber that acts as the lid. The cap popped off quite a few times, and eventually my rats were so desperate for water, they ended up pushing the bottle out of it's clip and knocking it on the floor. This popped the cap off and I ended up with water soaked into my carpet. Thankfully, I kept their old incredibly leaky, hard to fill water bottle as a back up. I felt so guilty for not realizing they weren't able to drink from the bottle well. I was grateful it was only 2 days, but that was 2 days too many. I'll take my old leaky bottle over this one anyday.

You Can't find a Better Water Bottle!
You cannot beat this water bottle! I've tried the Lixit and it leaked everywhere! This one doesn't leak, only very very rarely- so you don't WASTE Bottled WATER by refilling it over and over and it doesn't ruin your pet's bedding. Plus it's easy to put drops of vitamins in and refill without having to take the bottle off the cage. Just remind yourself to take it off and wash it everyonce in a while, because you'll forget about it, this is such a set it and forget it water bottle. It is a no hassle water bottle and worth the extra money because the other water bottles are all a waste of money. My only problem with it- It's hard to see the level of the water when it gets low, but even thats not a big deal because you can check it and see the level. Also be careful to secure it to the cage well and snap the lid closed because sometimes when your attaching it to the cage you can drop the bottle and water will spill everywhere if you don't snap the lid securely, but this is human error. As long as it's secure to the cage- no problems at all.
