GREAT for gas stove!
Love this kettle. It's large and the bottom is wide so I can put my gas stove on high and the flames stay under the kettle and the water heats faster. Also the button on the handle can be popped up and left so it doesn't whistle and when pouring you don't have to hold the button in. A simple push and it pops back down. The lid is very substantial. Would definitely buy again.

Practical Electric Tea Kettle
I don't have an answer as to whether it is BPA free or not. I didn't not find any information on BPA in the user guide. There is conflicting information in the Reviews and Q&A as to whether this is BPA-free or not. Picking an electric kettle turned out to be a lot more complicated than I thought. In addition to BPA concerns, some of the options out there don't have an ON/OFF button, and some have an exposed heating element, some have an awkward way of dealing with the cable, and things like that. This was my first electric kettle, so I did not want to spend a lot on it. So while researching, I found this one on sale for around two dozen dollars, so I picked it. It has a stand-alone ON and OFF button (press the "1" side for ON, press the "0" side for OFF). The heating element is underneath the metallic reflective (you can see your reflection) surface on the bottom, so you (and the water) don't see or touch the heating element. The cord is nicely organized, it wraps around the base, and you can make adjustments if you like (I was fine with the way it was out of the box). And upfront, it has a temperature adjustment control. You don't get actual temperature degrees, but it's more of a hot and hotter and hotter type of a thing. Still, for this price range, that's pretty good. The kettle can heat water between 0.5L and 1L, which roughly translates to two to four 8oz cups. If you are brewing tea in individual cups, I would suggest using a 10-12oz cups even if you are brewing 8oz of tea per cup. The tea bag or tea infuser and tea leaves need some room, and you don't want your tea to be close to overflowing. Heating time is very fast, I did not use a timer, but I would say a couple of minutes. I've had it for about 4 weeks, it auto-shut-off on its own every time I used it. It has vertical water windows on either side of the handle, and that's handy when you are pouring in water. You can look at the level from the inside (or outside), so you can pour only as much as you need. This kettle is great in figuring out what is going on. When you turn it on, there is a yellow light at the temperature control area. When the water starts heating up, you can hear it. Then after it heats up some more, you can see the water dancing through the windows. And shortly after that, the kettle shuts off with an audible click, and the light turns off. So you know for certain that it is off. Pouring water out is nice as well, it has a steady controlled comfortable flow, even though it is hot hot water, I don't feel there is a risk of it splashing in all directions. There is also a removable anti-scale filter the water passes through when you pour it out. Optionally you can pour the water in that way as well (per the user guide). I did five nearly 1L kettles of throw-away water before using it to make tea to actually drink. I haven't noticed any added kettle flavor to the tea but I'm not the sharpest taster in the world either. Unboxing: you get the kettle, the base with the cable, a user manual, and the limited warranty paperwork in multiple languages. While unboxing it, I found a very tiny female hex nut (something shaped like this:5Pcs GB Standard M10 SUS 304 Stainless Steel Female Thick Hex Screw Nuts ) on the table. I don't know if it fell off the kettle or if it was in the box. Reading the user manual actually has some interesting and practical things (I read it partially with the intention to see whether it said anything about BPA - it didn't). It is a good idea to read it. It warns that the kettle must never be filled while sitting on its base. It must be filled separately and then put on the base. It says don't use scouring pads, don't immerse it in water. It recommends white vinegar for descaling. It says if you are tasting plastic, fill it up with water and add bicarbonate soda (baking soda) and boil it. The manual repeats itself in French after the English ends. Perhaps the most eye-rolling thing in the manual was this, item #14 under "Important Safeguards": "all machines are subject to stringent quality control. Practical tests using machines taken at random are conducted and this may explain any slight marks or tea residue prior to use" - Whaaat? :)

UPDATED: Works well, but here's some advice...
Okay, a few words of warning and advice to everyone who buys this kettle... Does this kettle work well? Yes. Are there some things you need to know about how it operates before you buy it? Yes. I realize that its possible for everyone to have completely different experiences using the kettle they receive, so I will let you all know what I found out using mine, and also address two of the issues others have complained about. I have been using it every day for the last two weeks, pretty much all day long. Issue number one: "it leaks." Answer: kind of, not really. It doesn't actually *leak* through the unit so much as it boils out and makes a mess if unattended. I found that even putting in the minimum amount of water on the half-way setting, if not pulled right as it starts boiling and poured, will bubble out of the spout and pool around the unit. However, because it does boil water pretty fast, I just stay nearby and watch it each time i heat some water and the moment I see it bubble, I pull it and pour it into my mug. If I do that, no mess to clean up. If I leave it unattended, the hand-towel I have under the base gets damp or full-out soaked if I boiled a full pot. This hasn't bothered me, because, as I said, it works so fast I don't mind keeping an eye on it for a minute or two every time I want a cup of tea. (and I drink probably 10 to 12 mugs of tea per day) Issue number two: "there's build-up, there's stuff floating in my water, there's stuff peeling/chipping/coming off the metal plate or the lining of the pot, the coating is coming off the inside and tainting the water." Answer: I would bet that 99% of the people complaining about this can easily fix this problem by only using distilled, purified, or filtered drinking water in their kettles. I used tap water for the first few times and saw this ugly stuff floating in my water, but I see this when I boil the same tap water on the stove in a pan. Most city tap water, and most country well water, has a lot of minerals and additives in it. When you boil this water, those impurities separate from the water. I went and bought some jugs of water from the grocery store (they aren't usually very expensive at all) and I used them in my kettle. Voila, no more floaties in the water. I used Distilled water and purified drinking water, both kept the kettle clean with repeated use and no build up. I tried a gallon of "spring water" and the buildup came back, so avoid spring water as well. Remember, this will happen in any unit you buy, no matter the manufacturer, brand, or model. It's about the water you use, not the unit itself. Someone also complained that it is loud, but I only notice a slight noise from it, very briefly, as it nears the boiling point, and the moment you pick it up it stops. Also, I'm not sure about the temperature gauge/heat selector on the unit. I find that it heats to boiling whether all the way over to the right (where its supposed to boil), or in the middle, and it gets slightly warm on the far left side. That doesn't really matter to me, because I'm apparently not enough of a tea snob to care about the exact temperature of my water when I make tea (and I make all sorts of tea from green and white teas to black teas, they all taste good to me - as long as they aren't lukewarm). So, it's a good unit, does what I need it to do (very well), but it does have a few quirks to work around, hence the 3 star rating. If it had less quirks in regards to the water level/boiling-water/condensation mess, I'd probably rate it higher, but its kind of a poor design flaw. If you don't mind the mess or watching your water boil (in the 2 minutes it takes), then feel free to purchase this inexpensive unit. To be honest, I'd have already returned it, but I kinda got used to using it throughout the day and I really don't mind too much anymore, now that I know my way around it. UPDATE: 2014.10.08 I found a new trick to help reduce the moisture/"leaking" problem. Normally, after I pour a cup of hot water, when I come back and lift up the kettle there's some water underneath as if it leaked - it's actually from steam condensation or boil-over (if you used too much water) - but here's the trick: After you pour a cup of hot water and set it back down, open the lid for a few seconds to allow some of the steam to escape - this will reduce or eliminate any excess "leakage" one may find around the base. it's been working for me pretty well.

6 month review with daily use
Large base works well with high output burners. Boils water very quickly. Whistles well. Handle tends to get a wee bit warm but stays a bit cooler than others. The mechanism to open the spout is awkward and cheap feeling. In fact, the entire handle is quite cheap feeling. I'd recommend this for daily use with high output burners.

An excellent kettle
I bought this several years ago but just realized I hadn't written a review. It heats water quickly and is still working fine.
