Finally a Diverter Tub Spout That Does Not Leak/Waste Water When Shower Is Engaged!
This Delta diverter tub spout is amazing! It is cheap, it looks good, it has flexible installation options, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY - IT DOES NOT LEAK/WASTE WATER WHEN SHOWER IS ENGAGED!!! Update 5/10/2023 - Picture order was messed up somehow. Updated numbers referenced in the review. Two of the bathrooms in my house were equipped with Moen diverter tub spout (see picture 2) when the house was built brand new. They leaked water like crazy when shower is engaged since day one! Over the years I have replaced them a few times thinking maybe they have improved the design and made them better. NOPE! They still leak water like crazy when shower is engaged. Finally I had had enough and looked for other alternatives. I found this Delta spout and a Kissler & Co 82-0025 tub spout. The Kissler & Co spout uses a quarter-turn ball valve in the spout to divert water to shower. This makes sense and I'm sure it will not leak or waste water either. But aesthetics-wise it does not look as good as the Delta. So I ordered 2 of the Deltas to give them a try. The original Moen spout was screwed on with Teflon tape. After I removed it I ended up with a copper pipe with a threaded adapter sticking out of the wall for about 4" (picture 3). I could use the same screw-on installation for the Delta but the Delta requires that the end of the threaded adapter to be 5/8" to 1-5/8" from the wall for the screw-on installation. This means that I would have to cut the pipe and solder (sweat) a new threaded adapter afterwards to meet the requirement. Fortunately the Delta spout also has the option to sweat its own adapter onto the pipe directly. For this option the requirement is the pipe length from the wall to be less than 3-1/2". As can be seen in picture 8, after I unsoldered the old threaded adapter, the pipe measured just shy of 3-1/2" from the wall. So it was perfect for the sweat-on installation. Make sure to take the o-ring off the Delat spout's adapter before you sweat it onto copper pipe to avoid damaging the o-ring. Also the end of the adapter has to be between 1/4" to 1" from the wall. I set it to 7/8" as shown in picture 4. Picture 1 shows the Delta adapter sweated and o-ring put back. After that simply screw the spout onto the adapter and you are done. Picture 5 shows this. You can add the final touch by caulking the base of the spout and wall. One last thing - Delta spout has a notch/slot on the bottom of its base (picture 7). This is for draining water in case there is a leak through Teflon tape (screw-on installation) or due to failed o-ring. Make sure to leave this notch/slot open when you caulk so water can drain out for you to notice if there is a leak, and water won't accumulate and get behind the wall through pipe opening.

Matching brand, good value
This Delta tub spout was an identical match to the old one (25 years old). Easy install.

Chrome plastic
Good value when the price is $12., otherwise it's plastic, how much would you spend for plastic?

Easy Install
It looks like metal, but is plastic. I am giving it a 5 star because of price of only $12.79 for the chrome one. The brass version is $67 and the one I really wanted, the stainless/nickel look is $73.55. I will put up with the chrome for that price difference. It comes with the brass RP 33794 or RP 12307 stub stored inside the faucet, so don't buy the stub if you are replacing the old faucet with a similar faucet or want a new stub if converting to Delta. To take off the faucet, take both hands, firmly grab spigot and turn to the left, it should screw right off unless it has a bead of caulk you need to slice first. You will see the old brass stub. Save you some time and money, your not a plumber, just clean the old stub with some CLR and a stiff toothbrush to take off any gunk and mineral deposits outside and inside the pipe, rinse and repeat. Wipe the tub where the old faucet touched it. Take the old O-ring off the old stub, discard and take the one off the new stub, grease with some vaseline and put it on the old mounted stub. Then screw your new faucet to the right on the old pipe stub until it is snug to the bathtub. Mine did not have caulk, doubt it needs it. Your old one might just be out of action from mineral deposits. Before you buy this new one, maybe screw off the old faucet and soak it in some CLR. Screw it back on and try it. If it still has issues buy another. You can do this.

This spigot with diverter actually works!
The media could not be loaded. We have all taken a shower where we pulled or turned a mechanism that was supposed to divert the water from the spigot to the shower head. What we got was water coming out of the spigot and shower head. Such a waste of water and our money. In 2017 I purchased this Delta spigot with diverter. It is not something a lay person would install. You need a torch and you need to be able to cut pipe. Because of that it sat in a drawer for 5 years. Fastforward to 2023 where I live in a time that I may have to sell the house, so fixing things has been my priority. Installing this spigot became one of those priorities so I called a plumber and somebody came out and installed the device. Besides the cost of the plumber, I am thrilled that this thing does not waste a drop of water. OK maybe it does drip drip but it’s way better than that. You know mini garden hose of water that was coming out of the spigot. I absolutely recommend this if you find that you are wasting water while taking a shower as half the water is coming out of the shower head and the other half is coming out of the spigot and just going down the drain.
