Exactly what we wanted

Absolutely a great buy. I can't believe i wasn't new. It must be old new stock, but tucked away somewhere safe so it looked brand new.

It Could Be Better

The exterior of the house craftsmanship is really well done. Its a beautiful piece but when you turn on the light you can see how dept 56 dropped the ball... Inside, Scrooge is being circled around by 3 ghost. Its pretty cool and I've had no mechanical problems for 2 years now but there's no interior work done. Zero effort. Just a white background. Also i dislike the bulb they used. It's a bright white light. Compared to the other Dickens houses they all use a yellow light. Looks more like a candle lit interior which is how it should be. This is me just being picky. Overall it's a cool piece to have in your collection. But I can't give it 5 stars for these reasons.

Modified Light for Scrooge House

I really like all the Department 56 Dicken's collection. I just purchased the Scrooge House a few days ago. I read the reviews about the LED light prior to purchasing, but ordered anyway. I didn't care for the look of the light either when I received the house, so I modified it. *** How to Modify *** There is a round plastic housing that holds the light and the ghosts that rotate around Scrooge. There are no screws at the bottom of the housing . You need to carefully run a flat head screw driver around the plastic housing. This will dislodge some glue that would not allow me to get my screw drive in to pry the housing out. You need to slowly take the flathead screw driver until the housing starts to separate from the glue holding it in place. At this point you can carefully slide out the whole mechanism, which also includes the post holding the light. I just popped a cap from an old Christmas light set over the LED to give it a green glow. It is also more muted, than the exposed LED. I really like the look. You can probably get an amber cover as well, if you want it to match your other houses. *** Conclusion *** If you collect the other Dicken's houses, your set would be incomplete without this house.

Not up to the standards of the rest of the set

I've been collecting the full Dicken's village set over the last few years, and I went ahead and got this one so I could have them all, and I can't understand why the manufacturer isn't considering our negative reviews?? First, it squeaks so badly that I have to keep it turned off as it annoys the people in my house. I tried oiling it, and it helped for a bit, but the motor inside is just noisy. Next, I get what they were going for, but you just can't put this cold whitish blue light next to all the warm white houses. It stands out so much that it ruins the entire scene. I find it looks better to leave it off because at least then it just looks like a home with the lights off. Finally, if you do get close enough to look in the window and see the ghosts, you also see the ugly yellow and white strip of wires running down from the lights above. I mean, everything about this product is subpar compared to the rest of the Dicken's set. Given that many of these reviews say the same thing over multiple years, I can only assume the manufacturer either doesn't care or is so arrogant that they don't feel like they have to listen to us. Either way, a bad buy, and I don't recommend anyone else get this unless they actually fix these problems. Oh, and by the way, this time last year the reviews were overwhelmingly negative (mostly 1 star), and this year there are a lot of 5 stars. I can't imagine anyone giving this 5 stars, so kinda makes me suspicious about the origins of the positive reviews. Buyer beware on this one!

The crown jewel in the Dickens Christmas Village

Really love the craftsmanship on this one. Scrooge being haunted by Jacob Marley on the inner rotating platform is a nice effect. Note that the light is bright white (supernatural occurrence) not warm yellow like the rest of the houses and buildings in the collection.

Broken part but fixable

Update: I'm happy to report that gently prying the bottom off was easy as they must have used like a tacky glue. I was then able to glue the figure back into place. It's now as good as new and I will reinforce the bottom with more tacky glue. I adore these peices, now it gets 5 stars We were going to return it but decided to keep it.

The light is a neon white/bluish.

The light is not like the rest of the houses. Unless you're willing to open the house up to get creative with the way the light is displayed, get the other scrooge house. Otherwise, the seller and quality of the house is great. The light is the only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating.

Looks Great!!

This is an addition to my wife’s handed down collection of dickens xmas village pieces. I was very surprised they were still making them. The quality is excellent and was shipped to Ontario, Canada in one piece. This piece has a lighted interior and dancing figures circling around on the second floor, working fine. She loved it and was happy with it. We have room for one more piece to cover the long shelf that the village sits on at xmas. I’ll be back for another next year.

Magnifique

Maison magnifique avec beaucoup de détails. Ça sera très beau sous le sapin. Le seul point négatif est la couleur de la lumière à l’intérieur. C’est un blanc froid. La lumière des autres maisons est plus chaleureuse.
