A designer faucet that needs install guide improvementIt's
it's a Kohler, so I paid more for the name, but in fairness, in the past when I've had problems/questions with other Kohler products, they've always responded immediately, sending replacements parts (if needed) at no charge. Customer service practices have been good. I ordered two of these Alteo K-45800-4-2BZ faucets along with other matching accessories to complete a master bath renovation. I selected a single-handle faucet because it's easier to clean up after use - fewer small spaces to wipe off. The faucet is as pictured at Amazon. Clean lines, a single, short-throw handle, but compared to the Delta single-handle faucet it replaced, water flow seems to be restricted - the stream is slightly smaller and there's less pressure, although it's fine for bathroom use. I've previously installed many faucets and this one was about as uncomplicated as I've seen. A simple, step-by-step sheet of 15 instructions is included with the faucet. With a couple of exceptions, it's almost impossible to make a mistake. These steps should be added to the install instructions: - be sure to remove the tailpiece (that fits into the J-trap pipe). Otherwise, the height of the stopper cannot be adjusted. - When unscrewing the large nut that compresses the big rubber washer to the bottom of the sink, depending on the thickness of your sink, you probably don't have to unscrew (lower) the rubber washer all the way to the bottom of the threads. I did that on the first sink and spent too much time screwing the nut back up for the washer to contact the sink bottom. Unless you have a pretty strong grip, the nut won't move the washer back up easily, doing it by hand. - when dropping the stopper into the sink flange, the tapered end of the centering flanges should point down, otherwise there won't be enough adjustment to insert the stopper bolt (a stainless-steel rod with a round nylon ball on it, that allows up/down movement of the stopper) into the hole at the bottom of the stopper adjusting rod. As mentioned earlier, I bought 2 of the faucets, but after disassembling the stopper components, and not paying attention to how they went together, I incorrectly inserted the centering flange upside down on one of the faucets. That resulted in later removing the stopper assemblies from both sinks to figure out what was wrong. - Step 14 of the install instructions is to remove the aerator before flushing the water lines using the provided aerator key. Trying to position that key after the faucet has been secured to the sink surface is maddeningly difficult. Remove the aerator before beginning the installation. Water lines are provided to connect to your supply line fittings. Now that I've installed the faucets, if I had to do it again, I'm guessing it would be a 45 minute process. A final side note, the instruction emphasizes not using a petroleum-based plumber's putty. I had used that on the install of the previous faucet and it left yellowish stains around the sink flange. I'll be looking for a way to remove those stains. My wife is happy with the faucets & accessories, so that means I'm happy too.

A real improvement for my vanity sink
I kept watching my old (non-Kohler) vanity faucet with mineral crud seeping through the seam joining the upper and lower sections and knew it was bound to blow soon. Since I've had good experiences with Kohler kitchen faucets and not-so-much with the bathroom one, I searched for Kohler. I picked the shiny finish which arrived quickly to be installed by a licensed plumber. I chose the shiny finish and it makes me smile every time I use it. (An interesting and pleasing design feature I didn't note during the ordering process is that the handle tapers a bit from the back forward to the tip of the handle.)

Nice design---especially if you get it with the rest of the Kohler Alteo line of bathroom hardware
This is a handsome design, and you should realize that you only need the slightly clunky base if you have a three-hole sink. They look best without the base in a one-hole sink, and the base is purely optional, fortunately. On the plus side, we got towell bars, toilet roll holder, towel ring and robe hook all from the Kohler Alteo line, providing a sleek coordinated look to the bathrooms, and we would have gotten the shower head from this line as well if we had it to do over again. We got 80% of the design quality of vastly more expensive bathroom hardware for half the price of the high end stuff--kind of like how our Mazda 3 gives us 80% of a Beemer for half the price--and still seems to have comparable reliability. Computerized manufacturing techniques have shrunk the distance between cheap and expensive products in general. Our new faucets replace cheap Home Depot house brand faucets that worked reliably without any problems for over a dozen years, while the ones we had before that were unreliable, requiring maintenance and having leakage issues that the Home Depot products didn't have. That's how much thinks have improved in a generation. But the inexpensive stuff still doesn't look at good as midrange products like the Alteo line. Also, high arc faucets like this make it easier to fill water bottles, especially the tall-ish ones bicyclists use. it's also easier to rinse after brushing your teeth if you like to stick your head under the faucet instead of using a glass. On the negative side, we found that the faucet's drain rod (the little thing you see peeping out in the back of the faucet in the photo) pulls up at an angle, which can foul on the backsplash, if you have a backsplash and/or the mounting hole is too far back. This is the sort of thing that's easy to miss when you're shopping. It's not a defect in the product--just something to need to be aware of. Likewise, it's not a defect that the faucet uses a smaller than normal aerator, but if you want to attach a valve for a pet/shampoo sprayer to the faucet, you'll need a step-up ring. Not a problem for 99% of buyers, and the step-up rings are easily available for online order. But we'd already gotten a Dawn (Taiwanese brand) single-handle faucet for our other bathroom, which has a normal-diameter aerator, and only cost a little more than the Kohler, so we went with the Dawn and returned the Kohler faucet. We also liked the design of the Dawn faucet's handle a bit more. More importantly, the flow restrictor and the aerator are a single component, so if you remove one you remove both--making the water flow unacceptable to most--whereas with the comparably styled Dawn product (AB77) they're separate pieces, so you can keep the aeration even without the flow restrictor. I think most buyers would be happy with the Kohler, unless the slightly greater design sophistication of the comparable Dawn product matters to you. One important price factor is that while the chrome versions of the Kohler and the Dawn faucets were close in price, the Dawn faucet in brushed nickel cost a lot more. So your choice could be different depending on which finish you want.

Nice looking faucet
Liked how this looks, a little bit pricey. It is a little bit complicated to install but would probably buy again

Nice faucet - improved flow after removing flow restrictor
The faucet looks really nice and was easy to install, it is pricy but in the end it is worth it. The flow was quite low with the factory configuration and that's about the only thing I dislike about it. After taking out the flow restrictor, the flow is much better and now I can decide how much flow I want, I don't need the aerator to decide that for me. I have included some pictures showing the removal of the flow restrictor off of the backside of the aerator. After taking out the white cap, remove the pick insert. Then reinstall with the provided aerator turning key.

So much easier
I love this Kohler faucet. I hated my old faucet - it was hard to get just the right flow and temp - and it was so hard to keep clean the way the flat surface was designed. This Kohler faucet works like a dream. Very easy lever for on-off and temp control Highly recommend for anyone with hand issues.

Perfect for my needs
Since the Kohler Refinia faucet was too pricey to match the valve trims in the shower, and I needed a 5" spout reach for the sink that came with the vanity, this Alteo was a very close match at a more reasonable price, and has the needed spout reach for the drain of the sink.

Attractive faucet
Wasn't sure how this faucet would work in our bathroom, but absolutely no regrets. Love it.

looks great, and works.
Received this single handle facet in Dec within 3 days of ordering. Solid, looks great, and works well, I installed on granite and did not use the base chrome platform. In this case, from the counter top to the top of the handle (when on) is 8 1/4".

Nice faucet good flow
I like the look of the spout and the flow is excellent I just find the scale of the handle a bit small.
