Got the Stripped Oil Pan Bolt Off, It Worked! I WOULD RECOMMEND this Bolt Extractor

A major department store with a tire and oil change section in the back, stripped my oil pan bolt. I bought this item, hoping to get it off with out a major expense. It worked. I WOULD RECOMMEND this bolt extractor set. I did snap the shank off but it snapped off at the tip and I was able to clean it off and simply insert the remainder of the shank into the hammer drill. In the future I would do that from the start. Other than that, it got the oil pan bolt off and I was able to replace it.

Tools are good quality; "case" is just cheap packaging.

Funny that "What's In The Box" gives 9 sizes that are in the 7 Piece Set. Would that there were, because I needed a size between 7/16 and 1/2 inch. I did only expect the 7, and will keep the set.

Great for light job

It is not for heavy duty applications. It is not for use with impact driver as the package icons suggest to use them either manually or with a power drill. If you have a situation to use them, I suggest you certificate the threads are reasonably free using lubricant, hot air or a flame, and manually handle them. This is the way I use as I do not have lots of damaged screws to remove at the same occasion. It works perfectly to me - up to now I have no surprise with them. For heavy duty applications probably you will be best served with something manufactured to support bigger efforts. I recommend them for light applications!

It worked great on the first rounded one that I tried it ...

I had a 4 bolts on a lawn mower engine cover that were recessed and very difficult to get to. Being recessed they tended to hold dirt and water and resulted in the bolts becoming rusted. I managed to get two out with standard sockets but the other two were impossible to remove and became rounded off due after my multiple attempts to get them out. I decided to try this set before moving on to more destructive methods of removal. They arrived quickly and I immediately opened the package with high hopes. It worked great on the first rounded one that I tried it on. No such luck for the second one. Apparently it was too far gone. I had to cut away part of the plastic engine cover in order to get to the bolt and use a pair of vice grips to get it out. So... for my needs this has set has worked 50% of the time. If I had used these before my multiple attempts with the standard sockets it probably would have gotten that last stubborn bolt before I rounded it off too much. Overall I'm glad I have these on hand for future problem problem bolts.

Time Saver

If I had just bought this set earlier I would have saved myself hours (and I mean hours) of time trying to get out a rounded bolt on my 6.4 Powerstroke. I had used a cheaper set from Harbor Freight but I only managed to get out one bolt before the cheap sockets wouldn't bite. I chucked the 8 mm bit from the Irwin set into my cordless impact and bam, the bolt was out in seconds. Right tool for the job. I highly recommend this set. Should have been in my tool box earlier. Skip the cheaper set and get this one, period.

Right Tool for the Job!

Glad I found this, ordered and used it right away to extract some really rusted and stripped screws holding down my RV's completely shot skylights and plumbing vents. Nothing worse than having several roof leaks AND not being able to get screws out to fix it. What is the old saying? "The right tool makes the job easier." The IRWIN bolt extractor set does just that. I know these will come in handy for any bolt or screw that just won't come out.

Stay clear.

This item is not really up to the job. Tried to use them today to remove a stubborn screw bolt holding in a wing mirror on an MX5, no chance. Ended up stripping the bit. Clearly the metal is way too soft. Waste of money

Probably poor

Not used yet but as the are a shafted version of the other IRWIN product they probably have the same effect as the other IRWIN product i used and got got no where which was usless.

Excellent tool set, but not packaged as shown

A tool which has saved the boiler repair man having to get out an angle grinder for a stripped bolt, and made short shrift of a badly rusted screw. These are solid pieces, look well made, and come coated in a fine oil for rust protection. 5 stars for the tool, but only rated as 4 because the product was not supplied in the neat box as shown. Instead, the set was supplied in a think plastic blister pack. It opens and re-closes fine, but it's not secure and offers no protection to the tools. If this was a mistake, Amazon, please forward the box......

The bolt/nut removers worked really well in a confined space removing a corroded torx bolt. Good quality.
