Not Raccoon Proof
I’m getting ready to order my third of this particular feeder. The first one lasted for a couple years. Squirrels were not an issue. They tried to get to the seed flexports but were unsuccessful. However, the raccoons figured out how to pluck the flexports out. Once the seeds poured out onto the ground they ate from there. I used Gorilla glue to glue the ports in place. The feeder worked well afterwards until the tips of the flexports wore out, allowing seeds to leak out slowly. We bought our second feeder and I immediately super glued (not the same expanding Gorilla glue used in the first feeder) the flexports in place. The second feeder has worked perfectly (until today) since purchasing it in October 2022. The raccoons persevered and clawed the flexports loose. I found two but the third remains lost. So, I’ll receive my third feeder, find a better plastic epoxy/adhesive, glue the flexports in place, and salvage all the flexports off the second feeder just in case the raccoons are once again successful in removing the flexports. I find the flexports to be the weakest link in this feeder’s design. They pop out easily unless glued in place and the rubber (or silicone?) tips of the port wear eventually. Everyone’s mileage may vary with this wear point depending on species and number of visitors to the feeder. The top fill cap is designed to screw/unscrew with a solid retention. My first feeder’s cap fit loosely but still maintained a solid closure (the raccoons left lots of claw marks along the edge, indicating to me that they attempted to gain access). The cap on my second feeder was a little harder to open until it had been opened closed a number of times. The fit remains secure. The squirrel proof feature works well to close off access to the seed flexports once their weight is on the outer metal cage. I’ve seen them suspend from their back feet and try to reach the feeder with their front. Thus far they have been unsuccessful at accessing the seed flexports. Instead, they forage beneath the feeder where seeds fall from the bird activity. I am on my third of this same feeder, and thus would recommend it. I would also recommend taking steps to secure those flexports.

Works as it shoulr
I prefer a platform feeder for my kitchen window view but the squirrels had been working mine to exhaustion. I switched to safflower seeds, which the squirrel don't like and while taking care of that problem, it seemingly resulted in fewer birds, or more precisely, fewer different species. I was long reluctant to try this type of bird feeder partly because of negative reviews about their effectiveness and partly because I know squirrels to be a crafty, creative lot. My neighbor, however, reported this precise style was working effectively for him. The plastic covers over the feeder holes prevent the squirrels from hanging from a limb and reaching in, which is possible with other models. I have had it in use for several months and the squirrels no longer even drop by to try it. I could not be happier with this product.

Looks great but no squirrel proof
The feeder looks very nice and the overall concept of it locking up when there is enough weight put on it makes sense to be ‘squirrel proof’. However, even though I have followed the recommendations of keeping the feeder 18” away from the fence (although my picture doesn’t look like it), the squirrels have found a way to hang on and maneuver the feeder in a way to take off plastic shields that allow the birds to eat, and dump seed all over the fence and ground (now enticing a small family of mice!). Multiple times I have gone out and replaced these shields only for the squirrels to remove them yet again. That is the major flaw in this design - the shields should not be removable! I will try a cayenne dusted bird seed next (ok for the birds but not for anyone else!), as well as super glue the shields in place (per another buyer’s recommendation). If this doesn’t work then I need to get a whole new feeder.

Flexports don't last
Bought 2 in November 2022 and had 3 flexports deteriorate by April 2023. When the flexports fail there is nothing to hold the bird feed in the feeder. Perky-Pets product support honored the one year warranty and is replacing the feeders, however I would suggest they change the design back to it's former style.

It Works! It really is squirrel-proof
My in-laws bought this for us, and I liked it so much that I searched online for it, and ordered two more for other areas of the yard! I have watched as squirrels have tried and tried to get into it, and they just can’t. They eventually get exhausted and go away. The exterior part slides down and covers the feeding holes with the weight of the squirrel’s body. Also, squirrels can’t gnaw through the tube. I’ve had several squirrel proof feeders in the past that didn’t work - either the squirrels chewed through it, or they were able to eat from the dispenser, etc. This one works and it’s worth every penny. The other thing I really like about this feeder is that when it rains, the seed doesn’t cake and get jammed up. We’ve had feeders before that leak when it rains, and the seed turns into one big suet cake that the birds can’t eat and that we cannot break up and clean out. Such a pain. Not with this one. Two thumbs up!

Awesome squirrel-proof feeder, but beware the woodpeckers
We have super squirrels here in North Texas, and every feeder we put out, the squirrels destroy and have a bird seed buffet. This feeder is the first and only feeder that they try to get into, but can't. The only problem is that the woodpeckers almost broke the feeding port, but it easily snapped right back in. Definetly a great purchase!

Okay....
The only reason I'm disappointed with this is because I wanted something that would also attract my cardinals to it. They don't like this. They will not eat out of it so I'm kind of disappointed. I haven't seen any squirrels on it yet which is a good thing. It is a nice bird feeder it's nice and big and holds a lot of seed. Just disappointed because my Cardinals don't like it

Supposedly Squirell Proof
Bad design, I am going to have to go buy a different one. What this company calls a Flex port id a bad design. I filled the feeder thinking it would help keep the weather and squirrels out. It didn't work. I went out the next day and the bird feeder was empty and the seed (what was left of it) was on the ground. Not exactly sure what happened but I believe when the birds were taking the seed out of the Flex port, They pulled the Port out of the feeder letting the seed drop to the ground. There were 2 ports on the ground and no seed left. I clipped them back in Place. They will not hold. If anything I will need to glue them in or go buy another feeder. It was total 56 dollars in Canada. I consider it a piece of Garbage.

The best squirrel deterrent feeder available
Over the past three years I have purchased a number of feeders in an effort to adequately feed the birds but discourage squirrel interlopers from eating the seeds, chasing away the birds and damaging the feeders. It appears that the recent purchase of The Perky Pet feeder is the answer I have been seeking. The feeder holds about a day’s worth of seeds,is easy to refill and replace on the stand and most importantly is difficult if not impossible for the squirrels to access. It has been to my bird feeder prayers.

Waste of my money
I should have listened to some of the other reviews before buying this. Basically threw my money away on this purchase. Within a day of hanging this out, a squirrel had chewed through one of the plastic openings, and it was one of the lower ones, so feed started spilling out of it. By day 2, it was useless as another opening was completed chewed through. End of day 2, threw it away.

Not very robust.
The bird feeder has several portals through which the birds can access seeds. However these portals are attached to the central cylinder and come away from the cylinder easily leaving a large hole. Sometimes the portals can be popped back in other times its too hard. The portals have an opening into the central cylinder through which birds can pull seed out. The portal opening is constructed from four plastic flaps that close the hole but can be moved by the birds to access seeds. However the birds can easily break the plastic flaps and the seed leaks out. The original design which had solid metal portals was better.

Fragile
Birds love it, grey squirrels had a nervous breakdown trying to get in, but they were persistent and within a week they had removed one of the seed window holders and most of the seed was in a pile on the ground. I managed to take it apart, put the piece back, but even though i was very gentle with the screwdriver some of the threads ended up stripped. I should have paid the extry 30 bucks for the Brome. I have another Perky Pet, the top on it was very difficult to remove and replace - except for the north wind which blew to parts unknown during a snow storm.
