Quality!
My nephew just showed me this cane I had bought for him. I was quite surprised at the quality and appearance. He seems to really like it. He had been going without because no agency would buy him one. That to me is sad! Thank you!

‘Great folding blind cane. Small when folding and sturdy when unfolded.
This is a great cane, it has reflective red and white stickers and it folds quite compactly. When opened it is quite sturdy. The hollow links are linked together with a thick, heavy duty bungee cord inside. I also like that the ends of the little links have smoothed out edges to prevent the bungee cord from damage. It has a bit of spare bungee on top to be used as a wrist loop. I wish the loop was a bit longer, so it could be used to tie up the links when folded, and not need the included carrying case. The nylon bumper which contacts the ground seems pretty durable and smoothly glides over cement and other hard surfaces but drags a bit on carpet. All in all a good quality cane for blind people.

I have found a better cane for them to learn with
I purchased this cane for a newly sight impaired patient. Since neither the patient or I had any experience purchasing a sight cane, this was the one I chose. After doing more research later, I have found a better cane for them to learn with, however, this cane did not last more than a month with mild, gentle, ambulation in the home and community. Cons: First thing that is on the list is that the tip of the can broke after one month. The glue that holds the cord in the black tip broke and now the cord is not anchored in the tip. This is a problem due to the bungee nature of the cord to have the cane be able to fold. Second - there is no way to add a roller ball, marshmallow, or any other easily purchased and available tip. There is no hook at the end of the bungee. Third - On the newer model sight canes they have placed a "stopper" on the cord so that when you pull the cord out, it keeps it from retracting up into the cane, thus ruining the cane and forcing the user to get another. This cane does not have this and this writer was using a pencil to keep cord from retracting up into sight cane. This is relevant here, due to the glue coming loose in black tip and cord coming out. If I had wanted to re-glue the cord to the tip, I couldn't due to the constant tension of the cord and worrying that it will shoot up into cane. Fourth - With uneven ground the tip would often become stuck and not glide. Even if this was finely ground gravel, can would get hung up easily on small items, such as a literal pebble. Seems as the attenuation of the cane was not as sensitive as others as well. pros: cheaper....would be good as a "emergency" or spare cane. It also slightly lighter than the more expensive sight canes. It is not as light as the graphite canes though. I am a sighted person and these issues were frustrating to me, I can only imagine if my patient or anyone else that does not have help, if the tip had fallen off or the cord had busted what kind of frustration they would have experienced.

This was purchased as a gift for a friend on 10/30/14. She LOVES this product. It's more practical than a standard long cane because it fits neatly into her hobo style purse. It's been in constant use for four months and the elastic in the cane snaps into place as if it were new. I suspect it'll be a while before a re-order is necessary. UPDATE: 03/18/15 (one minor issue) Re-ordered this cane on March 16th. My friend received her previous cane long before she was accepted for classes for the blind. The tip wore down due to improper usage. As noted before, the product is well built and the new cane will last a long time as a result of her lessons. The only thing that grabs me is that the 2" cane tip attached is impossible to remove and there are no replacements available that large. Hey, I even checked under chair tip/chair cup replacements. No dice. Would appreciate assistance in learning how to protect the cane tips in order to avoid purchasing a third unit and to keep the first cane as an emergency replacement.

Pretty good just one flaw
It is a white cane. It is a pretty standard one. The materials are fairly good. The only issue I have is that there is no grommet on the elastic band. The ones with one can easily use the loop created by the grommet on the band to bind the cane together when the cane is folded. If you can get by this curious oversight your not likely to find additional problems.
