I purchased this “shorty” drill bit set to fit in a super tight space with an 90 degree angle drill and some cutting oil. This set was Exactly what I needed for the tight fit on my tractor. A+, Recommended!

Best purchase since my lathe and mill

Even using a centering bit I have been frustrated with bent, wobbly, wandering drill bits and inaccurate holes using my lathe. I work with brass, mild steel, some aluminum and rarely need to drill deeper than 1” in smaller sizes., 1/16 through 3/8. These seem dandy right out of the box. I will report later if issues of loss of cutting edge arise.

Great for Taig

What makes these bits stand out is their extremely short size. I was having trouble finding bits that had enough Z clearance on my Taig mill. I purchased these bits along with a metric set of ER-16 collets (to hold the bits directly instead of using the jacob's chuck) and it has been a night and day difference. I can actually use most of the sizes in the set now at the same time as a vise. The price is so mellow too, I'm not sure why I didn't make the switch sooner.

Quality, USA-made drills

I was looking for a set of drills for my Proxxon FF 230 micro mill/drill, and this set is perfect. With a small milling machine, there often isn't a lot of vertical clearance, and jobber-length drills in the larger sizes are simply too long. With screw-machine-length drills, I can usually establish a reference with my edge/center finder and then immediately insert the correct drill without changing the table-to-spindle distance. These drills are sharp and run true. I've bought a few Chinese drill sets lately, and while you may be able to pick up a 115-piece set for less than $50, good luck drilling metal with them and having the hole be round and close to the desired size.

Sharp, inexpensive

Great for the price. Of course, at the price they could be total crap and still be "great for the price", but they do seem to be decent quality. I'm working aluminum, so I can not rate the durability, but they are initially quite sharp and cut well, at least. I'll be back with an update if I have problems.

Quality drill bits!

Stubby drill bits work great in my magnetic base drill. A must have for these kind of drills! Wish I could find stubby drill bits larger than 1/2”.

Great bits so far.

I have only had these bits a couple of months but I have used them enough to have an idea about their quality. They are sharp and cut mild steel and aluminum with no problem. I got them because of clearance problems with my Mini Mill, but I have also found that the short length makes it possible to skip drilling a pilot hole with a center drill; they are much less prone to "walk".
